Trying To Get Well

My first attempt at Adobe Illustrator. I made this swirl with help from this tutorial. I'm still sick and trying to get better. Ear infection with a perforated ear drum. No hearing in that ear. More "interesting" blogs once my health is regained. Maybe i'll be able to blog about this next.

And here's my cute little boy - one week older (5 weeks now). Spending time with Grandma Sheila at Starbucks.

Pear Pin Cushion

Well, I got something crafted! I hand stitched this scrappy pear cushion last night. I stuffed it tonight and just need to sew up the little hole in back. I followed a pattern from this Japanese Quilting book...but you can find a similar pattern for free on UK Lass in the US's blog!I am also working on a hour glass quilt (this is a the one Erin at House on Hill Road did - I love her fabrics and want to do one like this for Brice) - basic directions here. I'm (finally) using my red and white fabrics. And I might add in some of my black and white fabrics for interest. I'll post some photos of the progress of that soon. My next big project is going to be a mat for Brice to squirm around on. He's really moving around and with our laminate floors, we need something soft for him. I'm going to check out Hancock Fabrics...they have some cushion stuff on the roll. That way I can get a nice big piece. That or some REALLY lofty quilt batting.

I went out with my mom on Friday (per our usual) and photographed some barns in Battle Ground. Here is my favorite shot of the day. There are a few more in my Flickr photo album. When I first got into photography again (using a REAL darkroom) I focused on barns. It's nice to be out photographing them again. It is my favorite subject to take pictures of...that and rock formations. You can never take the geology out of me.

And of course, can't forget Brice! 4 weeks and a few days old now. I now have husbands cold/flu. So far it isn't as bad as he had it...but I feel like it's getting there. Brice is exhibiting some symptoms, but his temperature isn't too high yet. So that is good news. No ER visits would be a good thing! He's smiling a little more and cooing some. It's oh so much fun!! My mom posted a couple good pictures of us on Friday - check it out! And my girlfriend Liz had some new milestones with her little guy this weekend, too! And if you're into scrapbooking, you must check out a neighbor of mine's blog page that I just found out about today - Craftastic Times. Yes, I like to scrapbook, make cards, and do other misc. paper crafting...but sewing takes up the bulk of my energy.

Baby, Baby, Baby

I'm still working on the pattern and i'm between projects at the moment. I need to get some projects cut out so that I can run down and sew when I have little bits of time. I don't know where all my time goes each day. I know, I know...I have a baby. But still...I could find the time, I just get lazy. I did start crocheting a new beanie for Brice the other night. It's green. I'm trying not to go downstairs at night, instead i'm *trying* to sleep when baby sleeps. That's hard to do, i'm such a night owl now. Thanks pregnancy. Today was an every hour feeding day. Someone is growing. That wouldn't be too bad, but he didn't want to sleep between feedings. So then he gets overly tired and cries because he needs to sleep...then he wants to eat again. Vicious cycle.

I should take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone for your comments. I always try and reply, but sometimes your email is not provided to me and i'm unable to find one via your blog. So, I if you haven't heard back from me, let me take this opportunity to say thank you. It is so wonderful to have this whole new sphere of friends. I love having the blog to give me the initiative I need to craft and as a way to keep my family and friends updated on my comings and goings. I get so much inspiration from other bloggers and I hope i'm able to give a little in return to the rest of you.

My Mini Quilt Has Arrived!

My husband brought me in some "squishy" mail yesterday afternoon. As he tossed it to me he says "G'day Mate!" (Sorry Kate...my husband can be lame!) I just LOVE my mini quilt. I asked Kate to do something the represented her, and i'm so pleased that she did so. I wanted to think of my new friend in Australia whenever I looked at it hanging in my craft room. I just love the traditional and the little heart buttons. She also sent along some great fabrics, just perfect for my stash. I already have a project in mind.

Here's a look at the whole quilt.

And here's a close up of the little heart buttons. My husband says to me "did she cut out all of those little squares and sew them together?" So I had to explain to him about strip piecing. At least i'm assuming she strip pieced it.

I feel so remiss in my posting lately! I want to post more, but my day is filled with my usual activities, that take me a little bit longer since there are periods of feedings (made more complicated by the process I have to go through to starve off this yeast infection), periods of holding to calm crying and someone is staying awake for longer periods of time. ...oh, and my husband is sick, making me wonder who the "baby" really is. I did make it down to my sewing room for a little bit the other day. I sewed a receiving blanket together, I will post pictures soon. I'm also about half way through my pattern for the diaper bag! Yea! Photoshop is just a little harder to operate with one hand.

Make sure and watch my friends new blog: Giddy For Paisley. She has lurked around here since I started mine - often commenting (this is my "twin" by the way). I talked her into buying a sewing machine some months back and she's taken to sewing like a fish to water. I just keep luring them in to my addiction. Ignore my cheesy, "I'm-a-little-tipsy-because-she-keeps-bringing-me-new-glasses-of-wine-when-I-lose-mine-for-the-umpteenth-time-at-my-wedding-reception" smile. Here's a better photo.

Interesting YouTube Find

I had an email from my mom with a link to this You Tube video on making a messenger bag out of plastic bags. It includes a quick tutorial on how to iron your plastic bags and make them thicker and then use them to create a plastic messenger bag. Very interesting. A great way to use all of those saved plastic bags from grocery stores. I'm half tempted to give it a try...but I just love my fabric too much.

I'm coming along with my diaper/baby bag pattern. I still hope to have it done by Monday. Photoshop will take me the most time.

Brice had his two week check-up today. He is doing great...even above his birth weight. Guess that means he's getting enough to eat. Doctor even said to let him sleep at night. What doctor says that anymore? Good thing, cause i'm not waking him if he wants to let me sleep.

Finally - The Finished Swap Quilt!

Kate received her swap quilt! So I can finally post about it! I just love it and it was so hard to let go, so I will have to make one for myself sometime soon. In my abundant amount of spare time... I sent along a bunch of goodies, too (she posted photos of these). All of which was well received! I'm so glad!

I finally finished sewing together the burp cloths that I had cut out just before Brice was born. I have 4 of the monkey and 4 of the ducks. These are from my burp cloth tutorial, they are just so quick and easy and they are my favorite burp cloths. I definitely recommend making these for expectant mothers.

I had several of you say you'd like to help me out with testing my bag...so once it's finished i'll email out an electronic copy. My goal is to have it done before next Monday. But, of course, that will depend on the cooperation of Brice. We seem to be suffering from yeast infections - me in my nipples (OUCH!) and him in his mouth (thrush). So we have a doctors appointment in the morning for him. This could explain the spitting up and gas problems, too. The photo above is of his blow out I mentioned in the last post. Gross, I know...but they can't ALL be pretty pictures.

Goodies in the Mail

My pacakge from UK Lass arrived the other day. I just haven't had the time to post about it yet (and forgot to in yesterday's post). She wrapped it up so nicely...I need to be better about this when mailing out gifts. It's such a nice added touch.

Here is the great little pouch...and inside were some great chocolates! I ate them up. Yum!

And she included some great fabrics! Both of these are just perfect! We always refer to my stepson as our little monkey, so the monkey fabric will need to be made into something for him. And the other swatch will be made into something for Brice. I've been collecting different, colorful, boy-ish fabrics for a few months now to make a great quilt for Brice, so i'm sure this will go into that. I'm thinking fussy-cut.

And here's Brice sleeping in his crib while I vacuumed the kitchen. He's sleeping on the sheet that Grandma Sheila made him and wrapped in the blanket she made him. He later spit-up all over it and himself necessitating a bath becuase of how bad it was. Poor kid.

Busy Mama!

I can't belive it's been almost a week since i've blogged! Where does the time go? Oh, wait...I know: baby, cleaning house, baby, making dinner, baby, shopping, baby... I have been crafting, too! I made a cute bucket hat for my friends little girl for her 6th birthday (above). She opened it up, put it on and only took it off to flip the lining to the outside. It's not really reversible, but it looks fine. So I guess it is reversible. I think she must have liked it. She wore it most of the day. I've also been embroidering my winnings from Heather's giveaway. I'm almost done. I'm going to have to get some more designs of fabric. It's a great thing to do when sitting in front of the TV between feedings. I also went down and worked a little on the pattern for my baby/diaper bag. I'm going to start drawing it up in photoshop and will need a tester or two. Anyone intersted? It would be just a great all around bag...doesn't necessarily have to be a baby bag. Let me know if your interested and i'll send the pattern your way once i'm done.

Brice is doing wonderful! I can never get over just how cute he is. He has been sleeping 6 hours at night...following in my footsteps with my mom when I was a baby. I feed him about midnight and he sleeps until 6 the next morning. I feed him and then we snooze for a little bit longer sometimes. I set up the play yard in my craftroom so that I could bring him down with me to sew. The sound of the machine doesn't bother him one bit. I got some more burp cloths sew together and I cut out some flannel I had for a blanket. I'm hoping to get that sewn tonight.
