Finished! :: Orange Sherbet Quilt

6/25/2009

IMG_5350 Cause what else do you call an orange quilt?  Since it’s so summery feeling to me, and orange sherbet reminds me of summer, and it is summer…I think that works.  So in reality it’s an hourglass quilt.  I loved my red one, but I think I love this orange one even more.  I was going to keep this for myself, but now I'm thinking about selling it.  I’m still on the fence about it.

IMG_5359 I have a confession to make, I can’t ever decide which photos to post here of my projects.  I usually do one or two, and then upload a few more than that to Flickr…but I usually choose 20 that I like.  I feel like a dork for doing that.  But every angle is a new feeling to me.  I do the same thing when I take portraits of people.  I give them way too many options.  It’s something I've been trying to work on.  So basically, if you ever want to see more views of most of my stuff, you can wander over to my Flickr

IMG_5427 Brice loved the quilt, too.  He had to rub it down.  That’s been a new thing lately, rubbing everything – blankets, floors, me…  I’m not sure if this is because I rub his arm as he nurses (or leg) or if it has to do with dad.  Dad likes to put his soft blankets down on the floor and rub them to get Brice to come down onto them.  Either way, it’s quite cute (and funny) at times.

IMG_5493 But that has nothing to do with my quilt!  I know most of you don’t read our family blog, so I have to share a picture of Brice once in awhile.  And this quilt was the perfect backdrop for photos.  I am going to think about using quilts in more of my photos of kids from now on.

IMG_5375Let’s see, what else can I say so I can keep sharing photos…  Binding went on fast…and I’m going to post sometime later a new binding tutorial, and ditch the ones in my sidebar.  I want to go with an easier to understand tutorial, more along the lines of my recent tutorials: quick and photo rich.  It will be a multi part series, starting with how it’s made and then I'll go on to how to attach it to the front and finally how I attach it to the back.  That way, a beginner wont get overwhelmed…they can start with step one and not see step two until they are ready.  I have some friends that haven’t done binding on a quilt yet and this will be a great resource for them, not only the first time, but time and again after that.

IMG_5528 Alright, I’ve shared enough photos for one post.  Head over to Flickr if you want to see more.

Ack! I'm sorry. There was an unacceptable typo that I should have caught in my first comment.

Oh my goodness, I love the quilt! It is stunning! And Brice is so cute! I love all of the pictures you share. The more the merrier, I say!

This quilt is beautiful, as usual! I'm so excited for a new binding tutorial. I've been trying to work up the nerve to finish my first real quilt, and have been studying your other tutorials. You write great tutorials, keep 'em coming.
Also on a side note, I noticed this morning looking at my Google reader that everytime I see I have a new post from your blog I get so excited. Thank you for always having interesting posts and beautiful pictures!

Beautiful (the child and the quilt)! I've never had an urge to make an hourglass quilt before but I think you may have inspired me (again).

You can never have too many photos in your blog!
Especially since you have so many wonderful photos that really amaze me.

Love the sherbert quilt! Orange is a color that tends to get forgotten. I have been collecting various shades of this color and I think that I am going to make also!

Have a good weekend!

Gorgeous quilt - and I adore seeing photos of kiddos :-) Makes you seem "real" somehow~
I'm practically addicted to reading tutorials... as if I'm possibly missing a tidbit of info that could help my quilting improve. I love hearing everyone's way of doing something, whether its binding, or basting, or pressing seams :-) Everyone seems to do thing differently, but that's how I find what works best for me - try it all!

What a gorgeous quilt. It makes me want to redo my room in orange and some other fun color, like yellow or green. I especially love the way the fabric on the back coordinates.

I am looking forward to your binding tutorial. I always have trouble with my seam not lining up on the front and the back nicely. So, can't wait to see it!

The quilt is to-die-for gorgeous! I am looking forward to the binding tutorial, it is my least favorite part of the process (I send them to my Aunt 90% of the time).

HI Christina!
Your little/big Brice is so cute! I think He is a bit taller than Finn...

One of my students, and myself really, want to make that awesome orange quilt. I told her I'll write you to get a few pointers. Did you use a pre-made pattern? If not what is the size of the blocks and how many did you make?
Maybe you have a post about all this already...

thanks!
