What’s In Store For 2010

12/29/2009

IMG_8390 Lots.  Lots and lots.  But not too much.

IMG_3167 That’s really saying a lot, isn’t it.

IMG_3124 2010 will include a 365 photo-a-day challenge for myself.  It can be of anything.  Crafting, landscape, still life, favorite Brice moment, my car [Orange Chicken] on an adventure…anything.  Uploading them all to Flickr on time is a whole different story.

IMG_6447 There will also be a 52 week photo-of-me challenge.  But it wont necessarily be my face, but just some aspect of myself (feet, elbow, hair, etc…).  I thought one a week would be better than once a day.  I don’t think I could photography myself everyday.  I’m not setting a day of the week to do it on, I just have to have one photo of myself between Sunday and Saturday.

IMG_1526 Both appropriate for the upcoming talks on photography, don’t you think.  It is a way to keep me active in my photography and to push myself to learn more and continue to improve my photos.  Perhaps one day I will call myself a photographer and have an honest to goodness profession with a real studio…but that would be several years down the line.  For now I want to enjoy and play and learn and grow.

IMG_7830 In 2010 I will print my favorite photos and frame them, instead of letting them linger on my hard drive.  I will put photos up for sale in my shop on my personal website.  I will create calendars in time for 2011 sales.

IMG_4720 I will continue to exercise at least three times a week and go at least two miles on the elliptical (two months of that under my belt now).  I will also fight the urge to worry on my nails and let them grow so they are prettier to look at in step-by-step photographs (two weeks down and they are looking great!).  I will learn to love my toe-thumbs just the way they are.  It’s a sign of royalty, after all.

IMG_2151 I will keep my promise to Liz to complete a project that has been talked about for over six months now.

IMG_3767 But none of these are resolutions.  I don’t make New Year’s Resolutions because I am only setting myself up for failure.  These are goals that I hope to achieve.  In the 5th grade I had a teacher that told us how important it was for us to write down our goals in list form and keep them with us.  He would pull out his list from his wallet and show us that he did just that.  I always took that to heart.  While I don’t usually write my goals on paper, I keep a running list in my head of the important things.  But I do think lists are important.  If you write a list, things get done and there is a great sense of accomplishment when you get to cross them off as finished.  I love making lists and I always go back to them and make sure there is SOMETHING I can cross off.  So here is my list for 2010.  If I don’t succeed 100% in everything, that is okay, at least I know that I set some “goals” for myself for the coming year.  That is what’s more important for me.

IMG_9725 I look back on this last year of my life, a side of my life that I don’t share here and I find that I am very proud of myself and that I am a much stronger woman than I gave myself credit for (believe me, I've always known I was strong, so that is saying something).  Maybe one day I will be able to share everything with you, but for now I like to reflect on how positive I’ve kept myself and I really couldn’t have done it without this space and everyone that stops by to offer their encouragement to me in the form of a comment.  So thank you to everyone for stopping by in 2009 and I look forward to sharing my adventure (and following all of yours) in 2010.

I like your post a lot, very honest, beautiful. I often read your blog but do not comment (bad girl)...
I tend not to set resolutions at the beginning of the new year because it makes me scared. However, I try to set a few resolutions in the course of the year. I know for sure that 2010 will be a year of discovery for me and probably a year of ups & downs. But I keep hoping for the best. I hope 2010 will bring you peace and joy to you and your family !

I've never made New Year resolutions either, mainly because I don't think waiting for Jan 1 to change something is a good idea. I wish you all the best for 2010 :)

Such an inspiring post, gives me that extra push to write down my goals for 2010! I have always made New Years resolutions, but I always seem to break them, so setting goals for myself sounds a little eaiser for me to follow, even if they're not 100% acheived before the year ends! Thank you! Happy New Year to you and your family!

Those are some great goals! (I also don't like to make new year's resolutions, I feel I am just setting myself up for failure!!) It got me thinking that I really do need to write some things down that I want to try to accomplish this year. I also love to makes lists, and the wonderful feeling of accomplishment when you get to check something off, but this is an even greater place to put that list (then just on a note paper I stick in my purse) because then it is out there, with more than just yourself to keep you on track!!

Dave and I were just talking about this yesterday. About not having resolutions, but goals to work towards or maintain and supporting one another in our efforts towards those goals.

Thanks for sharing your goals with us. They are inspiring and have kept me thinking about the subject. Here's to a fantastic new year for you and those you love. :)

I love that lens....I want to marry it. I just put it back on my camera after kind of forgetting I had it, and now I can't take it off. Can't wait to see all your craftiness in '10!

I like your post and your honesty. I think making a list of achievable goals is so much better than the dreaded "resolutions.'

Oh Christina...I am struggling with my own list of New year goals. The 365 is a good one...I bet you do awesome.

And nails?!?!?! I have stubs, but it comes with the profession of nursing I guess..

PS That bag of fabric is dreamy.

Wonderful, inspirational post! I love lists as well (though I often make them and then have to throw them out after procrastinating too much!) I think you've inspired me to make goal setting my NEW blog post to come....I have a lot of thinking to do for the new year, and making a list now might help sort the quagmire that is my creativity! :o)

i love it! and i want a calendar.... right now, my only goal for 2010, is to not spend Christmas 2010 like 2009- meaning, no sewing Christmas gifts on Christmas eve.
so not fun.

Way to go!!! I'm new to your blog and look forward not only to following your progress, but also to using it as encouragement in my own journey. I love using New Year's Day as a starting point to once again try to be all that I can be. I will never be perfect, but I can always try to improve. I have found that having some kinds of intermediate rewards set into any new programs or plans is essential. It might just be that staying on goal gets me some private reading or sewing time, but SOMETHING. Have a productive new year and, again, thanks for the blog. I know they are time consuming.

I'm always afraid that if I state my goals out loud in any way that if (when?) I fail it'll be all that much more devastating. So I've got them tucked in a quiet corner of my mind. But it's a daily thing for me - not a yearly one. It's encouraging to read your goals - best wishes for reaching each and every one of them - and more - in 2010.

I wish you good luck with the challenge. It can be hard to publish photos every day...but I really admire the ambition!
